Western’s Johann Neem Appointed to American Historical Review’s Board of Editors

Western’s History Department Chair, Johann Neem, has been appointed to the American Historical Review’s Board of Editors for a three year term.

The American Historical Review is made up of 14 editors with different historical specialties. Editors are invited to join based on expertise and do not apply for their position.

“I was kind of surprised, I did not expect it at all,” Neem said. “Partly because editors in a journal like that tend to come from big research institutions.”

Neem is the only member of the editorial board that is not part of a research one university.

“For me it is fulfilling to know that the kind of people on the board of editors know about my scholarship and respect it,” Neem said. “I think it is also a testament to the fact that Western produces great scholarship in all kinds of disciplines and is respected.”

The American Historical Review has been produced by the American Historical Association since 1895 and is an influential scholarly journal that publishes research into historical topics. An editor at the American Historical Review reviews research papers and manuscripts sent to them and advises the author on their work.
