Western partners with Seattle University to host sustainability workshops at Gonzaga on Feb. 16

Western is partnering with Seattle University to host a yearly Sustainability Across the Curriculum Workshop on Thursday, Feb. 16-17 at Gonzaga University in Spokane.

At the event, there will be 13 workshops and other professional development opportunities on sustainability in the curriculum.

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) and Western have recently signed a memorandum of understanding on sustainability curriculum. AASHE enables higher education administrators, faculty, staff and students to take part in sustainability innovation and work with higher education so the world’s future leaders are driven and prepared to solve sustainability challenges.

Grace Wang, associate professor of Environmental Studies at Western, said that the goal of the workshops is to support and encourage faculty to build sustainability content into their classes.

“Fundamentally, it’s a collaborative process where faculty members meet to explore and build sustainability concepts into their curriculum, no matter the discipline. It’s not just an environmental thing,” Wang said.

Faculty can register for the AASHE workshops online through the AASHE website: http://www.aashe.org/events/workshops. For more information about AASHE, contact Andrea Huggins at  andrea.huggins@aashe.org or Daita Serghi at daita.serghi@aashe.org.
