Western Libraries Access & Services for Summer 2021

Western Libraries will continue to offer its full suite of services to WWU students, staff, and faculty online during summer quarter. Library buildings will remain closed to the public, but on-site pickup and mail delivery of library materials remains available, as does online access to the Tutoring Center, and the Hacherl Research & Writing Studio.

Items from library collections are available for Western students, faculty, and staff to request, borrow, or access online. Western Libraries has joined more than 200 other libraries that have implemented HathiTrust  Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS), which means all Western students, faculty, and staff will also have online reading access to approximately 230,000 titles. If you need to borrow books or other items from the Libraries’ physical collections, or via the Summit borrowing or Interlibrary Loan systems, you can place your requests online, and select either mail delivery to an address of your choosing, or on-site pickup. Beginning June 8, 2021, the days and times for on-site pickup services will be Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Tutoring Center offers all its tutoring support services online, including support for math and science GURs. During summer session, the Tutoring Center’s hours are Monday through Thursday from noon to 2 p.m., or by appointment. When open, students can connect with a peer advisor by clicking on the “Chat with the TC'' link, found on the left side of the Tutoring Center’s main page. Tutoring Center peer advisors are available to answer general questions, match a student up with a tutor, connect students with additional online resources, or make referrals to other services.

The Hacherl Research & Writing Studio  offers students support in research, writing, and other related areas. For summer quarter, the Studio will be open online Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. During open hours, students can connect live for an online consultation, initiate a chat using “ask us,” or submit a draft paper for email response. There are also many online guides and resources that cover all steps of the research & writing process that you can browse and use at your convenience.

For students searching for a place to study on campus this summer, beginning June 14, 2021, the Viking Union will be open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Academic Technology and User Services (ATUS) will be updating information about computer lab locations and open hours for summer quarter in the coming weeks, so check their website for more details about campus computer lab access.
