Western Gallery to present ‘Masters of Design’ April 8 to May 18

Western Washington University’s Western Gallery will open its “Masters of Design” exhibition with a public reception and talk with the artists from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 8 in the Western Gallery.

The exhibition will run from Monday, April 8, through Saturday, May 18. The show is free and open to the public.

Celebrating the field of design, “Masters of Design” is an ongoing exhibition series presented by the WWU Department of Design. This year’s featured designer is Volume Inc. of San Francisco.

Volume Inc. was founded by California College of the Arts Design faculty members Adam Brodsley and Eric Heiman. Since its inception, Volume Inc. has created environments, books, websites, promotional collateral and films for a variety of commercial and cultural clients. Their innovative work focuses on engaging the viewer and has been exhibited, honored and published extensively worldwide.

For the WWU exhibition, Brodsley and Heiman will transform the Western Gallery into an interactive and provocative space. Visitors will have the opportunity to Skype with Volume Inc. employees as they immerse themselves into the designed environment.

In addition to the exhibition, Volume Inc. also provided a public lecture by Heiman at WWU in December, which was sponsored by the Indle and Rosalie Endowment. Slides from the presentation can be found on Volume Inc.’s website at http://www.volumesf.com.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, except Wednesdays when the gallery is open until 8 p.m., and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. For more event details please visit http://westerngallery.wwu.edu/.
