Western Gallery to host free lecture on sculptor Ibram Lassaw April 18

Denise Lassaw, daughter of renowned abstract expressionist sculptor Ibram Lassaw, will give a free lecture at 5:30 p.m on Wednesday, April 18 in the Western Gallery.

The gallery is currently exhibiting Lassaw’s “Projection Paintings” along with several of his sculptures and works on paper. The talk will be “The Art, Influences and Philosophy of Sculptor Ibram Lassaw.”

Lassaw has been called “the quintessential Abstract Expressionist sculptor.” He was crucial part of the New York School, both artistically and socially, and a friend of de Kooning, Pollock, Kline, Motherwell, Noguchi, Hare and many other artists working in New York during they heydays of Abstract Expressionism. Denise Lassaw will offer an intimate look into her father’s formative years as an artist. The talk will be illustrated with images from the Lassaw family archives.
