Western Earns 'Military Friendly' School Designation

Western Washington University has earned the 2020-2021 Military Friendly® school designation from Viqtory, a website focused on placing veterans in jobs or back into higher education.

Western, like all the institutions given this designation, has demonstrated commitment, effort, and success to create meaningful opportunities for veterans to translate military skills to civilian ones through education. These institutions provide support for transitioning veterans, and flexibility to military spouses, reserve and guard members who move often or deploy.

“When someone transitions from the military service, checking to see just how welcoming a school is to veterans can be the first thing a potential student looks into,” said Western’s Director of Veteran Services, Nick Sanchez. “Western being designated as a Military Friendly school is an important initial indicator for these services members and veterans.”

Schools were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey to determine Military Friendly® designations. More than 1,000 schools participated in the 2020-2021 survey with 625 schools earning the designation.

“Our ability to apply a clear, consistent standard to colleges creates a competitive atmosphere that encourages colleges to invest in programs to provide educational outcomes that are better for the Military Community as a whole,” said Military Friendly’s National Director Josh Rosen.
