Western Card Office moves to Old Main, to offer new mobile credential

The Western Card Office has moved operations from University Residences in Eden’s Hall to the Student Business Office in Old Main 110.

The office will be expand its scope in the coming months as it implements a new card production program which will give the office the capability to utilize a mobile credential. Services provided will remain similar for the short term; producing Western Cards, badges and nametags for students, faculty, staff and alumni.

This transition of location and oversight has been years in the making and the Western Card Office is excited to share this news with the campus community.

Imagine your Western Card, in all its forms, as an application on your mobile device. Tap your device as you enter the dining hall or purchase a meal from any Dining Services location; walk into the Rec Center and use your phone to gain access; check books out from Western Libraries; hop on a WTA bus and get a ride downtown by tapping your phone instead of swiping your card. Don’t want to get rid of your plastic card? That’s okay, it will still function in the same capacity that it currently does.

Phase one implementation with the mobile credential will mimic all current Western Card functions. We are looking forward to phases two and beyond which will expand credential capabilities to declining balance accounts, building access, attendance counting and more.

The Western Card team has met with many campus constituents and stakeholders during our transition and we look forward to meeting with more of you moving forward. We will soon be hosting meetings with vendors to receive demonstrations of their products and encourage all to attend these sessions. Details of vendor information, FAQ’s and more will be posted on the Western Card Office website. If you have questions, please contact Jessie Phillips, manager of the Western Card Office, at jessie.phillips@wwu.edu.
