Western and Québec renew partnership

The longstanding partnership between Western Washington University and the Government of Québec has been renewed for an 11th straight year.

The Government of Québec has granted Western $14,500 for a visiting professor of Québec Studies, who will teach Western classes cross-listed in Canadian-American Studies and Political Science.

With the assistance of the Government of Québec, Western’s Center for Canadian-American Studies has brought a Québec scholar to campus each spring to research and teach on Québec issues and Québec-U.S. relations.

The 2013 visiting Québec scholar was Julie Dufort, a doctoral candidate in political science and a research fellow at the Center for United States Studies at the Raoul Dandurand Chair of Strategic and Diplomatic Studies at the University of Québec at Montréal.

The 2014 scholar has not yet been announced. Western was one of just three universities in the Western United States to receive funding from the government of Québec this year.

Western maintains strong ties with Québec, beyond the visiting professorship. WWU offers faculty-led study abroad programs that take Western students to Montreal. Modern and Classical Languages Assistant Professor Christina Keppie will be leading an eight-credit, four-week course for Western students in Montreal this summer. The program still has room for a few more participants. The application deadline is April 20.
