Western Alert: Armed robberies reported near Western

UPDATE: Police have searched the entire area south of campus where armed robberies occurred at 4 p.m. today and earlier this morning. No suspects have been located. Police patrols are continuing into the night. Evening classes are continuing as scheduled. Students and faculty are advised to remain indoors and when traveling outside to walk in groups and to remain in well-lighted areas.

At about 4 p.m. a male victim, identified by police as a Western student, was robbed at gunpoint by two men. The gun went off but the victim was not seriously injured, police said. The robbery occurred on a trail near 23rd Street and Douglas Avenue. A helicopter, police and police dogs searched the area.The two suspects have been identified as Asian males in their 20's with medium build, one wearing a yellow windbreaker and the other either a dark blue or black windbreaker. If you see either suspect, call 911. It was the second apparent armed robbery in the area Monday. Late Monday morning, a woman reported an Asian male in his 20s robbed her at gunpoint at an apartment in the 2500 block of Taylor Avenue. The gunman fled in the direction of the trail where the afternoon robbery occurred.The woman, who police identified as a WWU student, described the robber as wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and a blue jacket. He was about 5-foot-8 and clean cut and took her backpack. One of the men in the afternoon attack was similarly described.
