Welcoming Convocation for new students to take place Sept. 21

The Western Washington University campus community is invited to be a part of the excitement and energy of welcoming new students to Western during the traditional Memory Walk procession, which will take place at the conclusion of the new student convocation program in the Performing Arts Center Main Stage Sept. 21.

The formal program, seating for which begins at 6:30 p.m., will include words of welcome by President Bruce Shepard, Associated Students President Colin Watrin, faculty member Steven Garfinkle and a special presentation by Vice President for Student Affairs & Academic Support Services Eileen Coughlin.

Memory Walk, a long standing commencement tradition, allows students to place memorabilia in the Memory Walk box for inclusion in the time capsule buried beneath the stone marking their class year. The Welcoming Convocation ceremony invites students to begin their time at Western in the same way they will conclude their time at Western – a spirited procession down Memory Walk.

All members of the campus community are invited to be a part of the “human corridor” that welcomes new students to the campus community. The corridor will form at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, in the PAC Plaza.
