Welcoming Convocation for New Students set for Sept. 20

The Office of New Student Services/Family Outreach invites the campus community to welcome new students at the conclusion of Welcoming Convocation Sept. 20.

As new students leave the Performing Arts Center after Welcoming Convocation, they will be greeted by returning students, faculty, staff and other members of the Western community. As a participant, you will be part of forming a corridor to cheer new students as they make their way on the Memory Walk.

New students will be asked before they depart the PAC to write on a slip of paper their hopes, dreams, goals or fears about their time at Western. The students may then contribute their notes to the collection to be buried in the 2016 Memory Box. The evening will conclude with a fireworks show.

New this year, a pre-party is planned in the Library Reading Room for those planning to participate in the Corridor. The pre-party is a chance to welcome back returning students, to build excitement for the corridor, and to keep corridor participants warm and sheltered until the time of the recession.

Doors to the pre-party open at 6 p.m. Ted Pratt, Dean of Students, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. The pre-party will include music, hot cider and assorted cookies and brownies (while supplies last), photos with Victor E. Viking, and a live stream of the PAC program beginning at 7 p.m.

Those who would like to participate in the Corridor should join the pre-party no later than 7:15 p.m. or meet in the Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.
