'Vitality' art show issues call for submissions

Building Resilience and Voicing Empathy (BRAVE) and the B-Gallery are calling for submissions of creative work in all media and sizes for a juried group exhibition opening Tuesday, Feb. 16. Western Washington University students, staff, faculty, alumni, family and friends are asked to respond to the subject of "Vitality."

A dictionary definition:

Vitality

  1. Capacity for survival or for the continuation of a meaningful or purposeful existence: The vitality of an institution
  2. Power to live or grow
  3. Exuberant physical strength or mental vigor

The WWU community is encouraged to bring a variety of perspectives and approaches surrounding the theme.

All forms of media including artist books, ceramics, visual communication design, drawing, fiber, film, industrial design, installation, mixed media, painting, performance, photography, printmaking, sculpture, video, the written word, and proposals for music, etc. will be accepted. Deadline for submissions is Monday, Feb. 1.

Requirements:

  • Up to a max. of 5 samples of images of artwork, &/or a max. of 5 samples of writing, etc., related to the theme ‘Vitality’ – images should be 300 dpi in quality and saved as .jpeg files. If the works have not yet been created, please show a sampling of your work.
  • List of images (including file name, title, date, medium, and size) 
  • A one-two paragraph artist statement in response to how your artwork relates to the theme
  • A short detailed proposal (including proposed medium and scale), if the work has yet to be created
  • A brief description of specific technical requirements or installation needs

The show will be held Feb. 16 to 20, with a closing reception on the evening of Thursday, Feb. 18.
