Viking Supported Agriculture program open for sign-ups

Western Washington University students, staff and faculty interested in participating in the 2013 Viking Supported Agriculture program can sign up now.

The VSA is Western's Community Supported Agriculture program, bringing students, staff and faculty in contact with Whatcom and Skagit County produce and producers.

By signing up, you will receive a box of local, fresh organic fruits and vegetables every Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. beginning June 20 through the next nine, 20, or 25 weeks, depending on your choice. Boxes will be dropped off outside of Carver Gym.

Students will receive a 10-percent discount at signup

The VSA program is a program of the Office of Sustainability; it was initiated through a Whatcom Community Foundation grant to help the community support sustainable, local agriculture and make nutritious food available to members of the Western community. The 2013 VSA program supports Growing Washington and Alm Hill Gardens, located in Everson, about 25 minutes northeast of Bellingham.

Growing Washington partners with many local Whatcom and Skagit County farms. By participating in the VSA program, your investment supports over a dozen small farms.
