U.S. News Ranks WWU as Top Public Master’s-Granting School in Pacific Northwest for the 23rd Straight Year

Western Washington University is the highest-ranking public master’s-granting university in the Pacific Northwest for the 23rd year in a row, according to the 2022-23 U.S. News & World Report college rankings.   

Western also tied with California State Polytechnic University at Pomona as the #2 public master's-granting institution in the West, a region stretching from Texas to the Pacific, including Hawaii and Alaska, and placed 6th in the West for Best Colleges for Veterans. WWU continues to be placed in the U.S. News “Best Value Schools” list as well. 

“We will always be proud of Western’s long track record as a leading public school in the Pacific Northwest, and in the greater western U.S.,” said WWU President Sabah Randhawa. “While this recognition is gratifying, we choose to measure our success by how well we are contributing to state workforce needs, addressing inclusive student success, including increasing access and eliminating achievement gaps for historically underserved populations, and broadening the footprint of our faculty’s research and innovations.”  

U.S. News separates categories for “national” (doctoral-granting or research) universities and public and private liberal arts colleges and for specialties such as business and engineering. The publication’s rankings are based on a variety of criteria including academic reputation, student selectivity and retention, faculty resources, peer assessment and financial resources.
