University Residences Updates Housing Occupancy Standards

Following the decision to further reduce the number of in-person classes on Thursday, July 30, Housing updated their occupancy standards to adhere to new safety standards guided by University, local and state health officials.

As of Friday, July 31:

  • All residence halls are single-occupancy rooms only fall quarter

  • Birnam Wood Apartments will house two residents per room (4 per apartment)

  • All residence halls on the Ridge are currently reserved

The updated occupancy guidelines provide residents the opportunity to remain socially distant in the residence halls, treats campus apartments as family units and allows University Residences to address quarantine and isolation space, if needed.

The student engagement experience in the residence halls is re-engineered for social and academic success by providing virtual and in-person programming and meetings with live-in staff that adhere to safety requirements.

Housing is also working closely with campus partners like the Rec CenterAcademic AdvisingPrevention & Wellness ServicesWestern Libraries, and other WWU departments to enhance the residential-campus experience. All in-person activities and events will abide by safety guidelines.
