University Records Retention Schedules Updated, and Records Management Training Offered

On June 14, University Archives and Records Management (UARM) got approval from the State Records Committee for updates to the University’s records retention schedules. Part of this update included the creation of a new College and Department Retention Schedule (https://library.wwu.edu/hr/cdgindex_archives) for deans’ offices, academic departments/programs, and the Libraries to use. This new retention schedule covers common records that these units create and maintain. For more information about the project, please see: https://library.wwu.edu/hr/scheduleupdate_archives.

The approved updates also included minor changes to the University’s General Records Retention Schedule (https://library.wwu.edu/hr/schedule_index_archives). We recommend reviewing the schedule to ensure continued compliance with retention requirements. Please note that many of the General Schedule webpages have moved, so saved links and bookmarks to the previous schedule may no longer work. Contact Records Management, x6654, for assistance.

Additionally, UARM is offering another “Introduction to Records Management and Retention at Western” class on July 20 (previously called “Managing your Records at Western”). This training is open to all university employees. To sign up, visit the WWU Training Portal: http://training.wwu.edu/classes/classdetail.aspx?id=30196.
