University Opens new Caring and Community Room in VU 714

The Caring and Community room located in VU 714 is an open use space for the Western Washington University community, to seek quiet time for meditation and reflection. No reservation is needed to utilize the Caring and Community space, and the space is available during VU operational hours.

This room was created to further Western’s commitment to a safe and supportive campus, as described by Western President Sabah Randhawa in his recent message to campus.

The space is available for individual use only – it cannot be reserved for organized group gatherings or meetings. This space is only available to Western students, faculty and staff; it is for quiet contemplation in an atmosphere of mutual respect; both are expected at all times. Please turn off your phone before entering and do not text. No posters, signs, or other displays are to be placed inside room at any time, unless first approved by the VU staff. This room is not intended for napping or sleeping.

Individuals not adhering to these guidelines will be restricted from use of this space.

VU staff will provide general oversight and monitoring of the Caring and Community space.

Helpline: Also note that the university has put into place other support resources for the campus community including a helpline at 650-3773. The purpose of this helpline to provide a supportive resource for Western's students, faculty and staff to speak with a supportive listener and answer questions or provide referrals to appropriate campus resources.
