'Topping Off' ceremony marks construction milestone for Carver

A “topping off” ceremony was held last week to commemorate the substantial completion of the structural steel addition on the south side of Carver. Attendees included campus members as well as the consultants, contractors and tradespeople who are making this long awaited dream a reality. For posterity, the attendees signed a steel beam and watched as it was lifted into place.

Additional exterior work includes exterior wall finishes, glass curtain wall, roofing on the 1935 and 1959 buildings, and site work. Less visible activities are continuing inside the building and include rough-in of mechanical/electrical/plumbing/fire systems, wall framing and door frames, etc.

While there will be few visual impacts for the next few months, the following construction impacts will remain:

  • Pedestrian/vehicular detours
  • Noise, dust and odors that the contractor will continue to mitigate as much as possible
  • Welding activities - shielded where possible
