The deadline for student speaker nominations for Winter Commencement has been extended to Friday, Jan. 24 at 5 p.m. – Click here to nominate

Being the student commencement speaker is an opportunity to convey a message of encouragement and congratulations, share common experience and insights, and inspire fellow graduates to carry their WWU education with pride into the world.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

In order to be eligible to be a student speaker at commencement, students must:

• Complete a degree application in the Registrar’s Office and be pending to graduate winter quarter.

• Be in good academic and disciplinary standing.

• Commit to attend and participate fully in the commencement ceremony associated with their college.

WHO CAN NOMINATE?

WWU faculty, staff, and students are invited to nominate a commencement speaker by 5 p.m. on January 24. Please complete the nomination form and the student will be contacted with an invitation to submit a full application. Students may self-nominate.

MORE DETAILS

Students who are invited to submit an application will receive detailed information after January 24 about the selection process. Applicants will fill out a form and submit a speech draft.

We’re looking for student speakers who will celebrate and inspire their fellow graduates. Student speakers aren’t always the most academically successful, or the most talkative and outgoing but they will have an important message and embody the values of Western.
