The countdown is on: Get to know four alumni who are Making Waves on Friday, May 14

What makes Western special? Lots of things, including dedicated faculty and staff, and passionate students who become extraordinary alumni. Join us as we honor four inspiring alumni who have used their educations to launch their dreams. Each has translated a unique set of passions and abilities into vocations that are impacting their communities and transforming lives.

On May 14 at 5:30 p.m. join the celebration and meet Western’s 2021 Alumni Award recipients:

Tyler J. Malek ('10) Entrepreneur of the Year

One decade ago, Tyler began his sweet journey to become co-founder and head ice cream maker for Salt & Straw Ice Cream based in Portland, Oregon.

Deborah Dull ('07) Young Alumna of the Year

Deborah has dedicated her career, and her expertise in the supply chain field, to solving complex and challenging global problems while working for Microsoft, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other prominent companies.

Donald L. Hardwick ('84) Larry “Go Vikings!” Taylor Alumni Service Award

Donald entered the computer industry fresh out of Western, starting out in sales at Data General Corporation and moving on to a variety of national, international, and worldwide leadership positions at Microsoft.

Julie B. Larson-Green ('86) Lifetime Achievement Award

Julie is a product design and engineering leader who led the definition and design of many of Microsoft’s most iconic products from the Office Suite to the Windows operating system.

The virtual awards presentation will include remarks from President Randhawa, a current student ambassador, and a lively discussion/Q&A with the honorees moderated by Craig Dunn, Western's Wilder Distinguished Professor of Business and Sustainability.
