Teaching the Literature Review: A Learning Commons Workshop

Faculty, graduate students, and staff are invited to participate in a panel discussion and information session focused on teaching the literature review, on Thursday, Feb. 1 from 4 to 5 p.m. in Haggard Hall Room 222.

This session will consider questions such as:

  • What challenges do instructors face in teaching the literature review, and what techniques are WWU faculty using to address those challenges?
  • What resources might Learning Commons offer faculty and students to better support teaching and learning the literature review?
  • What are some good assignments and supplements for guiding students through handling sources, sequencing the review process, and using appropriate organization and sentence conventions?

The workshop will offer sample assignments and includes a faculty panel featuring Kristin Anderson (Sociology), Kelli Evans (Communication Sciences and Disorders),  David Rossiter (Environmental Studies), and representatives from the Hacherl Research & Writing Studio (formerly the Writing Center), including Head of Research Gabe Gossett and Director of Writing Roberta Kjesrud.

RSVP to LearningCommons@wwu.edu reserve a packet of sample assignments to take away from the session.
