Suspected Voyeur Arrested by University Police

A 57-year-old Bellingham man was arrested on Thursday, May 17 by University Police in Wilson Library and charged with voyeurism, a felony, and stalking, a gross misdemeanor. He was booked into Whatcom County Jail and has been trespassed from Western’s campus. The man is not a Western student or university employee.

On Thursday, May 17, a male Western student told University Police that on May 15 he witnessed a man in the library taking inappropriate pictures or video, from under desks, of seated female students. 

The Western student worked with University Police to identify the man. University Police immediately began searching the library for the man identified by the student. On Thursday, the man was found, questioned at the library by an officer and arrested after he attempted to hide and drop a small camera he had in his possession.

University Police obtained search warrants and later searched the man’s camera and house. The University Police investigation is continuing. If you have any information related to this investigation please contact University Police at 360-650-3555.
