Students to hold gatherings today on campus to discuss issues surrounding Mike Brown's death

Western Washington University students will gather in Red Square today, Aug. 14, to discuss issues surrounding the recent death of Mike Brown in Ferguson, Mo.

Official speeches aren't planned for the events, which will take place from noon to 2 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on campus. The second event is being billed as a candlelight vigil.

"We'll give students an opportunity to say whatever they need to say to help them heal," said Annika Wolters, Western's Associated Students president. "It's a place for students to come learn about the event and share their feelings."

After both events, the Ethnic Student Center in the Viking Union will play host to further student conversations about the events in Missouri, Wolters said.
