Student speakers sought for Fall Commencement on Dec. 11

Western's Provost Office is now accepting nominations for student speakers of summer and fall graduates for the Dec. 11 Fall Commencement; all nominations are due by Wednesday, Oct. 20. Being the student commencement speaker is an opportunity to convey a message of encouragement and congratulations, share common experience and insights, and inspire fellow graduates to carry their WWU education with pride into the world. 

Who is eligible?

To be eligible to be a student speaker at commencement, students must: 

  • Complete a degree application in the Registrar’s Office and be pending or awarded for summer or fall graduation 2021. 
  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing. 
  • Commit to attending the in-person ceremony. 

 

Who can nominate?

WWU faculty, staff, and students are invited to nominate a summer and/or fall graduate by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20. Please complete the nomination form and the student will be contacted with an invitation to submit a full application. Students may self-nominate.

Students who are invited to submit an application will receive detailed information about the selection process. Applicants will fill out a form and submit a speech draft. We’re looking for student speakers who will celebrate and inspire their fellow graduates. Student speakers aren’t always the most academically successful, or the most talkative and outgoing but they will have an important message and embody the values of Western.
