Student presenters sought for ridesharing conference

The Washington State Ridesharing Organization will play host to a student forum at the upcoming spring conference. The forum will start with presentations from students from colleges and universities around Washington state on the topics of transportation and sustainability. These presentations will be followed by a panel discussion titled "Sustainability Literacy-Finding Ways of Incorporating Multimodal Literacy into the Higher Education Experience."

The student forum is free to all who wish to attend, with a special rate of $10 for students who wish to stay for the afternoon session on April 26. In addition, for any student who wishes to attend the full conference (Monday, April 26, and Tuesday, April 27), a special student rate of $30 has been established. The student forum will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, April 26, at the Lakeway Inn Convention Center in Bellingham.

Applications are being accepted for student presenters on the topic of transportation and sustainability. All student presenters will have conference registration fees waived (not including hotel costs). This is a great opportunity for students to have direct contact and network with transportation professionals from throughout the state.

Those interested in presenting at the spring conference should contact Mark Melnyk at (425) 348-2304 or by e-mail at mark.melnyk@commtrans.org with a brief description of the proposed presentation topic by Wednesday, April 14. Presenters will have access to audio/video equipment to assist in presentations.

The Washington State Ridesharing Organization is a group of ridesharing professionals from the state of Washington, founded in 1988. WSRO was established to encourage policy makers, employers and commuters to support the use of transportation alternatives to driving alone. The goal is to reduce air pollution, traffic congestion and energy consumption throughout Washington state and the Pacific Northwest. More information is available online at http://www.wsro.net/.

Please contact Mark Melnyk at 425-348-2304 or by email at mark.melnyk@commtrans.org for more details. Student registration for those who wish to attend more than the Student Forum closes by Friday, April 16, 2010.
