Student Outreach Services' Peer Mentor program gets students into the outdoors

How does Student Outreach Services engage with students?  Our Peer Mentor Program partners with the Outdoor Center and takes its mentees on a hike.

Led by an Outdoor Center trip leader, mentors and mentees were provided a guided hike from behind Miller Hall up to the watch tower at the top of the Sehome Hill Arboretum.  At the top, hikers met with the other Outdoor Center trip leader who prepared a pancake breakfast for them, using camping stoves, amidst a beautiful fall morning.  After a delicious outdoor breakfast and some fun socializing, the hikers were led back down to where they began the morning hike.  It was an enjoyable event for all who participated.

Student Outreach Services' Peer Mentor Program serves first-year students by fostering excellence through social and academic integration.  The Peer Mentor Program is made up of juniors and seniors who assist, advise, and provide resources for incoming first-year and transfer students.  As active student leaders, Peer Mentors share personal experiences to assist and help ease the transition from high school and other colleges to Western's campus.
