Strategic planning update March 10 to outline present, future of Scientific Technical Services

Kathleen L. Kitto, Western Washington University's vice provost for Research, will give an overview of Scientific Technical Services at Western and outline the office's strategic goals.

The formal Strengths, Challenges, Opportunities and Threats document is the result of nearly two years of work by the Strategic Taskforce for Scientific Technical Services along with other stakeholders on campus.

The presentation will begin at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, in Science Lecture Room 140.

In early 2015, after Kitto was given oversight of Scientific Technical Services, she convened a task force to examine the present state and future direction of STS. This task force included members from the original STS Advisory Council, which had not been active in the recent past. The task force met weekly since then to produce an updated SCOT analysis and mission, vision and objectives for a six-year strategic goals document. These documents were vetted widely during fall quarter 2015, with the task force meeting groups throughout the university for their feedback.

The March 10 presentation will focus on the revisions made to the documents as a result of the campus vetting process. The task force would like to thank the many members of the campus community willing to contribute to the process. Members are, in alphabetical order, John Antos, Brian Bingham, Marion Brodhagen, Clint Burgess, Jeff Carroll, Steven Emory, Janelle Leger, Erin Macri, Mark Peyron, David Patrick, Jackie Rose, David Shull, Ruth Sofield, Clint Spiegel and Charlie Wandler.

Scientific Technical Services' current mission is to provide high quality technical support to faculty, staff and students for a wide variety of teaching and scholarship activities at the university.
