Some roads on, near campus to be restricted during construction

A handful of road closures and restrictions near the Western Washington University campus could impact travel near the university during the week of Aug. 26 to 30. Here, from the city of Bellingham, are the closures most likely to affect Western traffic:

Bill McDonald Parkway from Ferry Avenue to Samish Way

The westbound lane of Bill McDonald Parkway from Ferry Avenue to Samish Way will be reduced to 10 feet, and the speed limit will be reduced to 10 mph while Faber Construction begins pedestrian improvements on the north side of the parkway. Flaggers will direct traffic through the construction area. For additional information visit the city webpage or contact Larry Scholten, project manager, at ljscholten@cob.org or 360-778-7923.

W. College Way from Highland Drive to Bill McDonald Parkway

The downhill lane of W. College Way between Highland Drive and Bill McDonald Parkway will be closed with a detour in place. Flaggers will direct uphill traffic through the lane closure. Stremler Construction crews, under contract with the city of Bellingham, will pour new concrete panels. For additional information, visit the city webpage or contact Craig Mueller, project engineer, at camueller@cob.org or 360-778-7922.

N. State Street

N. State Street over the hill will be closed to through traffic at Boulevard Street, and traffic will be detoured onto Boulevard. Motorists can expect delays at each end of the closure. Flaggers will direct traffic through the detours and lane closures. Ram Construction continues to build a new roundabout. For additional information visit the city webpage or contact Sam Shipp, project engineer, at 360-778-7942 or sshipp@cob.org.
