Social Security Administration to host free workshop for Western employees May 18

The Social Security Administration is providing a free workshop to Western employees on Wednesday, May 18, from 10-11 a.m.

This workshop, Social Security 101: Everything You Wanted to Know, will be on Zoom. The material presented will be most relevant to employees who are nearing retirement and will be collecting Social Security and/or enrolling in Medicare in the next few years. However, all Western employees who are interested in learning more about Social Security and Medicare are welcome to attend to learn about eligibility to receive retirement benefits, how early retirement affects benefits, when to file for Medicare and more.

The workshop will also cover use of the My Social Security online account and other online services. Attendees should go to www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount to create a My Social Security account and print out a statement before attending the workshop.

Workshop presenter Kirk Larson is the Washington Public Affairs representative for the Social Security Administration. He has worked with the agency for over 25 years in both technical and supervisory roles and has presented Social Security information in both the Seattle and San Francisco regions.
