Slam poet and social activist Guante to perform on campus May 5

Western's Residence Hall Association and The Karen W. Morse Institute for Leadership are partnering to bring slam poet and social activist Guante to campus to perform as well as speak in some classes and spend a few hours with Western students. He will perform from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 5 in VU 565; tickets are free but reservations are required, as space is limited.

Guante is a two-time national poetry slam champion, hip hop artist, and activist. He uses poetry as a medium to fight for social justice and acceptance of individual and cultural identities. He has been featured on media such as BBC radio, MSNBC, Upworthy, and the Huffington Post.

Guante will be speaking about activism and our many individual and cultural identities. We will hear phenomenal spoken word that pertains to WWU as a diverse and in some ways, imperfect, campus.
