Shepard to speak Aug. 24 at Bellingham City Club

Bruce Shepard, president of Western Washington University, will speak Aug. 24 at the Bellingham City Club about the university's response to significant cutbacks in state funding, its restructuring and retooling to meet current and future needs, and its role in relation to the Bellingham community and beyond.

A buffet lunch is served at 11:50 a.m., and the program starts at 12:20 p.m. and ends at 1:30. Lunch costs $11 for members and $16 for non-members. All programs are open to the public.

Founded in 1993, the Bellingham City Club is a non-partisan civic organization with more than 400 members. The club fosters dialogue and debate on important issues facing the community. The club meets for lunch at noon on the fourth Wednesday of every month at Northwood Hall, located at 3240 Northwest Ave. in Bellingham.
