Second Special Session Begins in Olympia

Governor Jay Inslee called legislators into a second special session in Olympia yesterday, following the conclusion of the 105-day regular session on April 23 and a 30-day special session that ended yesterday. Legislators are tasked with adopting a two-year state budget before concluding the legislative session, and in doing so, the Legislature has entered into special session each odd-numbered year since 2011. During special session, legislators will continue the challenging work of creating a 2017-19 budget that complies with the state Supreme Court’s McCleary decision regarding funding for K-12 education. In recent months the Senate and House of Representatives each released their proposals for the state’s biennial operating and capital budgets.
