Screening April 8: 'Women without Men,' about 1953 Iran coup

"Women without Men" will be screened Wednesday, April 8, as part of the Reel World Film Series for spring quarter. Wednesday's film is the first in the three-film spring series from the Center for International Studies at Western Washington University.

The film, which will be shown at 5:30 p.m. April 8 in Viking Union Room 552, tells the stories of four women during the 1953 coup that changed Iran’s history, testing their faith and the social structures around them. The film is based on the novel by Shahrnush Parsipar.

The monthly series is free and open to the public. Faculty and student organizations are encouraged to suggest films that can supplement a course, an event or a discussion that raises awareness about other cultures, about global issues or about viewing the world from different perspectives.

The next film in the series, scheduled for May 6, is about a runaway living on a roof in Ulaanbataar who finds a lonely women and embarks on a mission to intertwine their fate. That film comes on the second day of Mongolia Days on campus.
