Rybczyk to speak on rising sea levels Feb. 13

John Rybczyk, chair of Environmental Sciences at Western Washington University, will speak on "Rising Seas and Ecosystem Resilience" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, in Anacortes.

Rybczyk's presentation, sponsored by Friends of Skagit Beaches, will be held at the Northwest Educational Service District Building at 1601 R Ave. in Anacortes. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The specter of rising sea levels often capture our imaginations and concerns. In his presentation, Rybczyk will discuss his experience with field modeling programs designed to predict the effects of rising sea level on coastal and estuary ecosystems, such as the estuaries of the Pacific Northwest. He will also describe how some coastal ecosystems could keep pace and even thrive against a backdrop of rising seas.
