Retirement party for Marie Sather is June 2

After over 30 years at Western Washington University, Marie Sather, Director of Campus Recreation Services, will be retiring from that position at the end of the current academic year.

Marie first came to Western in 1983 as the university’s Intramural and Sport Club Coordinator. She was later named Associate Director of Campus Recreation Services when the department was created in 1990.

According to Vice President Coughlin, “Marie brought to Western high standards and active engagement through intramurals and sports clubs along with leading the design and implementation for the Student Recreation Center. It was Marie’s vision which focused the intramural and sport clubs on outcome based learning and leadership opportunities. Her involvement in the division’s assessment programs breathed meaning into the extra-curricular learning which has been imbedded in Campus Recreation Services. First and foremost, Marie has been an educator and this will be her lasting legacy.”

A reception to recognize Marie for her contributions to the university will be Tuesday, June 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Best Western Lakeway Inn. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 650-3766.
