WWU to Host Brass Quintet of the Americas Jan. 27

Western Washington University will host the Brass Quintet of the Americas at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27 in the Performing Arts Center Concert Hall.

The event is free and open to the public.

In May of 2015, the Brass Quintet of the Americas became the first outside professional brass quintet to complete a performing tour in Cuba.  The group now brings that historic tour to Bellingham to perform the same Cuba tour program, celebrating the music of North, South and Central America.

Comprised of music faculty from four universities from across the U.S., the group was formed around the players’ mutual interest in the connection between music and culture and a passion to share this music-culture link with diverse communities around the globe.

The group members are Gustavo Camacho, Assistant Professor of Horn at WWU; Mike Davison, director of Trumpet and Jazz Studies at the University of Richmond; John Aley, professor of Trumpet at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music; Velvet Brown, professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Penn State; and Mark Lancaster Lusk, professor of Trombone at Penn State.
