WWU’s Small Business Development Center Partners with PTAC to Bring Government Contracting Expertise to Whatcom County Businesses

Western Washington University's Small Business Development Center will host Cate Taylor, the Washington State Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) counselor, on the 3rd Friday of each month.

PTAC services include:

  • Interpretations of Solicitations: PTAC will help participants understand government contracting opportunities by reviewing contract clauses, terms, definitions and requirements. Helps to ensure interactions with bid target agencies are correct, complete and powerful.
  • Registrations and Certifications: PTAC counselors can help clients obtain the necessary certifications and registrations that may be required to contract with various government agencies and be more competitive in the government marketplace. These include, but are not limited to: 8(a), HUB Zone, small disadvantaged, veteran-owned, women-owned and minority-owned.
  • Specifications, Standards and Drawings: PTAC counselors can help clients locate the necessary documents to appropriately respond to contractor solicitation requests.
  • Marketing Assistance: PTAC works with clients to determine the key markets for products and services, and how to best access those markets.
  • Post Award Assistance: PTAC provides assistance with post-award functions tied to contract performance, such as: requirements for production, quality systems, accounting systems, transportation, packaging, subcontracting, property considerations and government invoicing systems like Wide Area Work Flow.

Washington PTAC’s mission is to increase the number of government contracts awarded to Washington firms so that those firms can grow. We provide no cost, confidential, one-on-one technical assistance in all aspects of selling to federal, state, and local governments. PTAC advises businesses on bid reviews, marketing assistance, contract performance, small business designations, and more. PTAC hosts procurement training classes and seminars, and helps businesses register with the correct databases in order to compete for government contracts.
