WWU’s John Gilbertson Named a 2017 Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar
Western Washington University Associate Professor of Chemistry John Gilbertson has been named a 2017 Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar, an award that comes with a $60,000 research grant.
The Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar award provides an unrestricted research grant to faculty at undergraduate institutions who are committed educators and researchers. Nominees are selected based on the submission from their institutions.
“This award doesn’t just recognize me, but rather all of the students, staff and faculty at Western that I have collaborated with,” said Gilbertson. “I am truly honored to work with such talented and dedicated people.”
Gilbertson has taught at Western for 10 years and received his doctorate in Chemistry from University of Oregon. His chief research focus is on the scientific problems associated with carbon dioxide utilization and the chemical reduction of pervasive environmental contaminants.
The Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar award is provided by The Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation, a leading nonprofit organization devoted to the advancement of the chemical sciences.
