WWU Art Faculty to Host Portfolio Review Day for High School Students

The faculty of Western’s Department of Art are offering a free portfolio review day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, in Fine Arts Building room 211 on campus.

The review is open to all high school students interested in applying to study art at any college or university – not just Western.

The portfolio review will be conducted by Art Department faculty – educators who are also professional artists with industry ties. The goal of the portfolio review is to help aspiring art majors improve their chances of being accepted to undergraduate Studio Art programs as well as increase eligibility for scholarships. Although participants need not intend to apply to Western, the university’s application deadline for fall 2016 is Jan. 31.

Participants are welcome to drop in any time during the portfolio review. Faculty from photography, fibers, painting, printmaking, digital media, 3D/sculpture and time-based art will be available throughout the day. All portfolios are welcome, and the review is being held in a media allowing review of digital and online work. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided for participants and parents.

Free parking for the event is available in lot 17G behind the Fine Arts Building at the base of Sehome Hill on the east side of the campus.
