WWU’s SBDC to Co-Host ‘Encore Entrepreneurs: Starting a Business at 50+’ Feb. 24

Western Washington University’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) along with Small Business Administration (SBA), and AARP are collaborating on “Encore Entrepreneurs: Starting a Business at 50+” from 7:30- 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Broadway Hall, 1300 Broadway, in Bellingham.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information or to register, visit the event website at https://www.sba.gov/content/seattle-encore-entrepreneur-mentor-month.

One in four Americans between the ages of 44 and 70 are interested in starting their own business or nonprofit venture in the next five to 10 years, and to support this growing population of 50+ entrepreneurs, SBA and AARP have joined together to create the Encore Entrepreneurs initiative.

The event will feature seasoned business owners who started their business after the age of 50. After the speaker presentations, participants can connect with the many local resource partners at the mentor mini-fair. Partners include SCORE mentors, Women’s Business Center, Northwest Innovation Resource Center, Washington Office of Minority and Women’s Business Enterprise, and Technology Alliance Group.

Western Washington University’s Small Business Development Center is part of the most comprehensive small-business alliance in the U.S., with more than 1,000 active SBDC programs across the country. Western Washington University’s SBDC receives support from the U.S. Small Business Administration, Whatcom County, the Port of Bellingham, and the City of Bellingham.

Since 1983, Western Washington University’s Small Business Development Center has given back to the business community and helped to shape the economic future of Whatcom County by providing free, confidential advising, technical assistance, and research to business owners and managers in an effort to help businesses thrive.
