Western Washington University Youth Programs to Offer Anacortes Early Release Program This Fall

Western Washington University Youth Programs will offer an early release program for students in grades K-6 this fall.

The program will be held Tuesday, Oct. 11 through Friday, Oct. 14, from noon to 3 p.m. at Island View Elementary and Western’s Shannon Point Marine Center.

Students will explore scientific illustration and marine biology. By studying scientific illustration, participants will discover the art of scientific illustration while observing the natural world and learning how to record it on paper with pencil, ink and watercolor.

While learning about marine biology, participants will utilize microscopes and the scientific method to explore life under the Salish Sea, including plankton and algal blooms, predators and prey, climate change and more.

Students are asked to bring a rain jacket, healthy snack, water bottle, journal, pencils and a curious mind.

Anacortes Early Release Enrichment is provided by Western Washington University Youth Programs in partnership with the Anacortes School District and Shannon Point Marine Center.
