Western Washington University to Offer Publishing and Marketing course for Aspiring Authors in November

This November, Western Washington University will offer a two-session course designed to help writers and authors market themselves and become published.

“Publishing and Marketing” will meet from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 7 and 14 at Western. The non-credit course will cover strategies to build and market an author platform and how to increase online presence.

Students will learn about different routes to publication, including traditional publishing and self-publishing, focusing on how to creatively use social media to connect with a target audience. Participants will create an Author Facebook page, a blog or website, an Author plan, and work on crafting a book pitch.

Local author and writing instructor Cami Ostman will teach the course. Ostman is the author of “Second Wind: One Woman’s Midlife Quest to Run Seven Marathons on Seven Continents;” she also runs a writing support group in Bellingham.

The registration deadline for the course is Nov. 1. To register and find out more information, please visit, wwu.edu/enrich
