Western Washington University to Host Lecture Series in Poulsbo this Spring

Western Washington University on the Peninsulas will offer a series of free educational lectures this spring in its Western Lecture Series, covering topics on marijuana laws, end-of-life care, evolution and climate change.

Each lecture is open to the public and will be held at Olympic College’s Poulsbo campus.

Attorney James McCanna begins the spring lecture series at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 2 with “Marijuana Laws and Its Impact on Employers,” in which McCanna will share information on our state’s new marijuana laws in relevance to workplace compliance.

Dr. Carol Cassella, a local practicing physician and best-selling author, discusses the moral and medical dilemmas faced at the end of life at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 30 in “Where Do We Go From Here?” Tickets are available online at wwu.edu/kitsapeventsfor $10 per person.

Jennie Hoffman explains the basics of evolution and its implications, as well as how understanding evolution can make for a better a world in her free lecture at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5 in “Practical Evolution: Why Understanding Natural Selection Matters for All of Us.”

Troy Abel, the Academic Program director and associate professor of Environmental Studies at Western’s Huxley College of the Environment on the Peninsulas, shares our state’s deep history and relationship with environmental policy, as well as insight on climate risk governance.

In partnership with Olympic College, Western on the Peninsulas offers four-year degrees, continuing education courses, free educational lectures, local literature book groups and youth programs.
