Western Washington University’s Educational Administration Master’s Degree Program Expands to British Columbia

Western Washington University’s Educational Administration master’s degree program is expanding to British Columbia.

“Western’s program fills a unique need in British Columbia," said program advisor Warren Aller. “We offer a degree in administration that blends Canadian and US educational systems and philosophies. It is this more global perspective where classes are taught by a blend of Canadian and US professors that makes the program unique.  Universities in Canada offer leadership programs, but not this blend.   It is an advantage for the Canadian leaders to hold a Master’s in Educational Administration with a broad based perspective.”

“Our niche is that we’re very hands-on.” Aller said. “When the classes start, students gel very nicely and they tend to become lifelong colleagues.”

This is an online program with opportunities for personal facilitation and application. Unlike many online participants, this cohort is geographically close to one another thus allowing them the opportunity to interact with one another person to person as well as on line.

Courses will have an emphasis on Canadian systems, unlike Western’s typical Educational Administration programs, which focus on Washington state systems. Current or recently retired B.C. administrators in conjunction with Western faculty will teach instructors in the B.C. program.

One cohort of students located in B.C. will start at the beginning of Winter quarter 2018. The two-year program may add a second cohort sometime later in 2018 or in early 2019. The program will be based at the Abbotsford School District.
