Western to Host Western Women Veterans Panel March 1

Western Washington University’s Veterans Services will host a Western Women Veterans panel from 3:30-5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1 in Fraser Hall 101 on campus.

This event is free and open to the campus community.

The panel will give women veterans a chance to share their experiences of serving in the military. The panel will include faculty, students and an alumna discussing their paths to the services, experiences while serving and why they chose education after.

The panelists include Judith Pine, associate professor of Anthropology; Cortni Alexander, a new student at Western; Heather Mueller, a Political Science major; Brittany Dymond, a student at both Western and Whatcom Community College; and Liz Harmon-Craig, a 2011 Western alumna.

“The number of women serving in the military has been increasing in recent years,” said Ann Beck, assistant director of Western’s Veteran Services office. “The Associated Students Veteran Outreach Coordinator, Brandon Quackenbush, and I want to make sure that all of our veterans have a platform for their voice, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to highlight the experiences of some of our women veterans who are connected both to Western as well as their military services.”

There will be time for questions from the audience after the panelists have spoken.
