BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University Extended Education will offer an evening professional studies course, open to community members, to help build skills in writing and editing.

The Knockout Editing course provides a space for participants to have their work reviewed and evaluated by writer and editor Laurel Leigh.

The first draft of a story or essay can be wonderfully inspired – and unfinished. For many writers, the grueling stretch begins when it’s time to revise. Learn developmental editing techniques successful writers and editors use to turn a good start into a great finish. Build revision endurance and decide when to elaborate, when to revise, and when to delete.

The course will provide tips for defining audience, shaping the text and honing creative prowess so each participant can knock out a polished draft.

Classes meet from 6 to 9 p.m. each Thursday from May 23 to June 13, 2013 in Western’s Communications Facility.

To find out more, attend an information session at Village Books in Fairhaven at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 15 or 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 6.
