Western Alumna Valeria Fisher Earns Scholarship to Study in Germany

Recent Western Washington University alumna and current graduate student at the Technical University of Munich Valeria Fisher received a DAAD Graduate Scholarship for the 2016-2018 academic year.

Fisher, a Bellingham resident, is being awarded €750 per month for two years for her enrollment in the Technical University of Munich’s Master’s program in Consumer Affairs.

The DAAD Graduate Scholarship provides highly qualified individuals with an opportunity to do independent study in Germany or to complete a full master’s degree program at a German university.

“I want to eventually work for the government in Consumer Affairs, by protecting people from bad services, bad products, and keeping people safe,” said Fisher.

Fisher is a 2009 graduate of Kaiserslautern High School in Kaiserslautern, Germany and graduated from Western in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in German.

Fisher recently returned to Western for the Back2Bellingham weekend, where she participated in the Modern Classical Language (MCL) professional alumni panel to talk about how students can use their language degree in many ways.
