Western’s Computer and Information Systems Security Degree Program to Hold Info Session Dec. 3

Western Washington University on the Peninsulas and Peninsula College will hold an information session for Western’s Computer and Information Systems Security (CISS) bachelor’s degree program at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3 in Peninsula College’s Keegan Hall M-237.

Peninsula College students and members of the community are invited to learn about the requirements and benefits of Western’s cybersecurity program from WWU Professor of Computer Science David Bover.

The new CISS program builds upon Peninsula College’s Associate in Applied Science – Transfer (AAS-T) in Cybersecurity and Computer Forensics degree and is designed for students who wish to continue their education with WWU on the Peninsulas for two years to earn their bachelor’s degree in CISS.

Established in cooperation with Olympic College and Peninsula College, the CISS program will begin during the 2016-2017 academic year and be based at the WWU Center at Olympic College – Poulsbo. The program will prepare graduates with the technical skills and education required to fill high-demand professional roles in businesses and local, state and federal government positions.

“As cyber threats continue, all organizations that maintain electronic records will need employees with the skills to keep the data safe from hackers,” said Candice Merrill, director of WWU on the Peninsulas. “Cybersecurity is a program that Kitsap and Olympic Peninsula employers have requested and Western is pleased to serve the Peninsulas in this way.”
