Website Provides Useful Information to WWU Students Living Off Campus

A newly re-designed Off Campus Living website has been created as a resource for Western Washington University students who are considering living off campus or who already live in Bellingham neighborhoods.

The new website, upgrading a previous older website on off-campus living, was created through a collaborative effort of Western’s Prevention and Wellness Services, the AS Legal Information Center and the Campus Community Coalition. It is designed to:

  • Assist students in making informed decisions regarding living off-campus.
  • Increase students’ knowledge of tenant rights and responsibilities.
  • Provide students with practical strategies to establish positive relationships with their neighbors.
  • Introduce students to conflict resolution techniques.
  • Increase students’ knowledge of local laws and ordinances related to neighborhood living, including underage drinking laws.
  • Deepen students’ self-awareness and identity as neighborhood residents.
  • Increase students’ awareness of community resources that support the responsibilities of neighborhood living and increase quality of life.
  •
  • “The Off Campus Living website is a great resource for students and non-students living in the Bellingham community. The collaborative work done to create this website is a great demonstration of the effectiveness of partnering together to share collective wisdom.  We encourage all students and community members to visit the site – there is definitely something valuable there for everyone,” said Elva Munro, director of Prevention and Wellness Services at Western.
  •
  • Carmen Rasmussen, Campus Community Coalition coordinator, noted that: “One of the 2015 goals of the Campus Community Coalition is to increase the visibility and use of the Off Campus Living website, in order to encourage healthy and positive off-campus living situations for students and their neighbors.”
