Kimberly Larson to Discuss Communicating About Climate Change May 25 at Western

Kimberly Larson, Director of Communications and Marketing at Climate Solutions, will discuss effective ways for communicating about climate change as part of the WWU Huxley College of the Environment Speaker Series at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 25 in Miller Hall 138 on the Western Washington University campus.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

In her Speaker Series talk titled, “It’s Okay to Talk About Global Warming: Effectively Communicating About Climate Change in a Heated Climate,” Larson will discuss current challenges for advocates of climate action and how they can best communicate with their audiences and challengers. As a Northwest-based nonprofit, Climate Solutions works to advance clean energy solutions to the climate crisis through promoting effective policies and market-based innovations, organizing partnerships and a diverse movement for action, and communicating the best solutions at the scale required by climate science.

Larson is the director of Communications and Marketing for Climate Solutions.  She oversees the organization’s marketing, messaging, communications, storytelling and media outreach. She has garnered coverage of public interest issues in outlets ranging from Time magazine to USA Today, network television to national cable news, National Public Radio to Business Week. Prior to joining Climate Solutions, she was the media director for the Public Interest Network, a family of organizations that includes Environment America and U.S. PIRG. She graduated from the University of Vermont with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies and a minor in Women's Studies in 1995.

The presentation will include a question-and-answer period. Anyone interested in the topic is encouraged to attend and participate.
